About the Sapporo Tenjin-yama Art Studio
Located inside Tenjin-yama Park and situated near the top of Tenjin Hill (85m), Sapporo Tenjin-yama Art Studio opened on May 31, 2014 to the public, specifically to celebrate the opening of the Sapporo International Art Festival 2014, to foster artist-in-residence programs and other residency opportunities, and to enhance creative activities in the present-day and future Sapporo. For these purposes, this building, which had been used as a guesthouse for the purpose of national and international conferences and symposia, was recently renovated. Sapporo Tenjin-yama Art Studio, with a panoramic view towards the city, contains 13 studio apartments, and local, national, and international artists and all manner of creative people are invited to stay, meet with locals and other artists, create works, research, and experiment with different techniques. Sapporo Tenjin-yama Art Studio also has versatile meeting rooms where locals and visitors of Tenjin-yama Park are encouraged to interact with artists and people who engage with arts and culture. The time spent at Sapporo Tenjin-yama Art Studio will become a special experience by interacting with others.
* The public areas in Sapporo Tenjin-yama Art Studio are open whenever Monday is a public holiday; in this case, the studio will be closed the following Tuesday.
** The centre is closed from December 29 to January 3.
