■展覧会「bugs bugs bugs」について
シンプルな素材と方法で作られた、想像上の昆虫たちの遊び心あふれる展覧会です。作品は2Dと3Dで、リサイクル素材やその他の紙素材を使い、2023年にカレン・スズキと一緒にスタジオに滞在したアーティスト、マーク・クラフ（イギリス）が装飾した紙やカードを取り入れて、カレン・スズキが制作したものです。
A playful exhibition of imaginary insects, created from simple materials and methods. The work – 2D and 3D – will be made by me, using recycled and other paper materials, and incorporating paper and card decorated by fellow UK artist Mark Clough who was here with me in 2023.

bugs bugs bugs
2023年11月から12月にかけて、英国グラスゴー出身のカレン・スズキは、同じく英国出身のアーティスト、マーク・クラフとともに天神山アートスタジオに滞在し、その間に集めたアイデアをもとにこの作品を制作しました。
前回の訪問中に初めて雪虫と出会ったことで、カレンは天神山アートスタジオを再訪し、昆虫を讃える一連の作品を制作することにしました。
この作品は、雪虫、スズムシ、カブトムシ、コオロギの4種類の昆虫に焦点を当てていますが、完成した作品はこれらを直接表現したものではなく、深い意味もありません。昆虫にインスピレーションを受けた遊び心のあるユーモラスな作品で、想像上の昆虫のような生き物の幻想的な形です。外見ではなく、（想像上の）性格を見ることができたら、どのように見えるかを表現しています。
この作品は、事前にスケッチや計画を立てることなく、素材に応じて自発的かつ直接的に作られ、素材には段ボール箱、紙（半紙や画用紙）など、地元で調達したリサイクル素材が使用されています。更に、マークはカードと紙をインク・絵の具で塗り、カレンはそれをここに掲載する作品に取り入れるために持参しました。
この作品を楽しんでいただき、笑顔になっていただければ幸いです。
In November – December 2023, Karen Suzuki, from Glasgow, UK, along with fellow UK artist Mark Clough, stayed at Tenjinyama Art Studio, and this work is based on the ideas they gathered during that time.
On the previous visit they encountered yukimushi for the first time. This has inspired Karen to return to Tenjinyama Art Studio to create a body of work celebrating insects.
The work is focussed on four insects: yukimushi, suzumushi, beetle, cricket; but the finished work is not a direct representation of these, nor does it have any deeper meaning. It is playful and humorous objects inspired by insects: fantastical forms of imaginary insect-like creatures – how they might look if we could see their (imagined) character instead of their outer form.
The work develops spontaneously and directly in response to the materials, with little sketching or planning beforehand. It is made using locally sourced recycled materials, such as cardboard boxes, along with paper/calligraphy paper and drawing media. In addition, Mark has decorated card and paper with ink and paint, which Karen has brought with her to incorporate into the work you see here.
