【アーティスト・ステートメント】

この夏（2025年8月）、私は天神山アートスタジオでのレジデンス期間を過ごし、2023年夏のレジデンスで完成させた作品群と密接に関連する一連のコラージュ作品に取り組んできました。札幌市内および周辺の数多くの神社や寺院を巡りながら収集した拾得物を素材として選択しました。寺院や神社は、人間同士の関係性やより大きな世界との関わりにおいて、私たちの重要な欲求を満たす場となる傾向があります。それらは、個人同士、コミュニティ、家族、そしてその先へと続く空間の「間」を形作る存在です。

この夏、街を歩きながら考えたのは、私たちが寺院や神社について考える時、特定の空間や場所を思い浮かべがちだという点です。展示するコラージュ作品のタイトルを考案する中で、その「間」が物理的な空間や場所以上の意味を持つ可能性に気づきました。その「間」が表し得るもののリストを作り始めたところ、多くの事柄と同様に、それは実に多様なものへと広がっていったのです……。

ここに、私のリストに挙がった「ものの間の空間」が持つ可能性の一部をご紹介します。

鼓動、音符、紙の上の言葉、星々、建物、二つの異なる思考、ある人と別の人、木々の葉、そしてそれ以上のもの。

札幌での時間を綴ったこれらのコラージュを、どうぞお楽しみください。

 

[Artist statement]

This summer (August 2025) I have spent in residency at Tenjinyama Art Studio working on a series of collage closely related to a body of work I completed in residency, the summer of 2023. I chose to use found materials that I collected while exploring the many shrines and temples in and around Sapporo Japan. Temples and Shrines tend to fill a number of important human needs concerning our relationship to each other and to a larger world. They tend to be a space between each other, our communities, families and beyond.

This summer as I walked the city streets I thought about how when we think about temples or shrines we also tend to think about a specific space or a certain place. As I thought about my title for the collages I am exhibiting I realized that the space between could be about a lot more than just a physical space or place. I started to form a list of things it could be and like a lot of things it turned out to be a lot of things…….

So here are a few of the things on my list that the space between things could be.

Heartbeats, musical notes, words on a page, stars, buildings, two different thoughts, one person or another, leaves on a tree, and so much more.

So I hope you enjoy these collages of my time in Sapporo.
