ステートメント/Artist Statement
共有された周波数 は、互いがアーティストであり夫婦でもあるメレテ・ラーセンとフレドリック・フリーゼンブリンクの二人によって、並行する「視覚」と「音」をひとつにした札幌を表しています。本展は、二人にとって初の共同展示となります。
彼らは共に、札幌という都市そのものをインスピレーションの源とし、その質感、音、リズム、そして建築的ディテールに応答するかたちで作品を制作しました。二人の共通した視点は、都市空間の中で見過ごされがちな静かな要素に向けられています。
彼らの作品の構成は、17の音字や音の集まりからなる日本の詩の形式“俳句”を手がかりとしています。メレテは、札幌の街を日々歩きながら感じて生まれた絵画作品を展開しています。その中には、俳句や書に用いられる伝統的な色紙に描かれた17点の作品が含まれ、それぞれが一つの建物をメレテの感性を通して抽出され、描かれています。
フレドリックは、それに呼応する形で札幌の音風景から切り取った17のサウンドサンプルを用い、視覚作品との対話を生み出す空間的な音の構成を生み出しています。
ただ都市の姿を描き出すのではなく、この展覧会では視覚と“音の俳句”からなる札幌が表現されています。リズムと静寂、そしてその土地の言語への関心によって形作られた二人の経験を映し出す展示となっています。
Shared Frequencies brings together two parallel studies of Sapporo, one visual and one sonic, by artists Merete Lassen and Fredrik Frisenbrink, a married couple and artistic collaborators exhibiting together for the first time.
Both artists have taken Sapporo itself as their source of inspiration, responding to its textures, sounds, rhythms, and architectural details. Their shared focus is on the quiet and often overlooked elements of the urban environment.
As a way of structuring their work, they have drawn from the poetic form of the haiku, which consists of seventeen onji, or sound-units. Merete presents a series of paintings based on daily walks through the city. Among them are seventeen works on shikishi, a traditional board once used for calligraphy and haiku, each one distilling a single architectural observation. Fredrik responds with seventeen sound samples, fragments of Sapporo’s acoustic landscape, which form a spatial composition in conversation with the visual work.
Rather than offering a portrait of the city, the exhibition unfolds like a visual and sonic haiku. It reflects two practices shaped by rhythm, silence, and attentiveness to the language of place.
