初夏の週末限定で、さっぽろ天神山アートスタジオの「共有スペース」を舞台に展開しているpublic space projectの一環として、アートな道の駅「バトキカイ」をAISプランニングが運営を実験的に開始することにしました。

アートスタジオにぶらりと立ち寄るお散歩の方々から、カフェがあったらいいのに、お店があればいいのに、という声を受ける形で、アーティストが滞在し、活動を行うこの場所の特性を活かし、アートスタジオを訪れる人々との新しい交流形、新しい風景をつくろうと札幌市に提案し実現しました。

滞在中、過去に天神山アートスタジオに滞在したアーティストのグッズ（小さな作品、ポストカード、リトルプレス、アクセサリーなど）と、ご近所のエリアの美味しいもの＆美しいものを販売する予定です。売店の収益は、未来のアーティスト招聘費用になります。

最近、南平岸にオープンした自家焙煎珈琲豆ショップのお試し豆セット、いつもイベントを手伝っていただいていた方が始めた焼菓子（クッキーなど）が何種類か、そして香港のアーティスト、ヘーゼルのzineや小物などがあります。

ショップ（バトキカイ）が置かれるのは、どなたでも自由に出入りができる共有スペース（1階）にあります。ここはカウンターが設けられていて水場もあります。かつて国際交流施設（国際ハウス）時代には、ホテル売店がありました。そして2014年にさっぽろ天神山アートスタジオに変身してから、平岸の人々と協働で開催していた天神山文化祭ではカフェになったり、滞在したアーティストの希望で写真の暗室になったりと様々な用途で使ってきた場所です。

私たちに多くの出会いをもたらしてくれ、スタッフもアーティストも楽しみにしていた月に一度の「Art & Breakfast Day in 天神山」（アーティストと市民のみなさんが持ち寄りで朝食をともにしながらアートの話、四方山話に花を咲かせるプログラム）が、コロナ禍で実現することができなくなりました。コロナ禍の2年間は、試行錯誤でオンラインでなんとか開催を試みました。月に一度の日曜日のような平和でお互いを知ろうとする温かい意欲が交差するような時間を、これから始まるショップのプロジェクト（バトキカイ＝場と機会）でまた創り出すことができないだろうか、と考えました。

また、「天神山文化祭」は年に1-2日間だけのイベントでしたが、ほんとうに多くの方々がこのイベント、祭りに協力や参加をしてくださり、アートスタジオとご近所のエリアとの接続を果たしました。ひとつの「祭り」を共同でやったという経験は尊い。これまで8年間つみあげてきたご近所とのご縁を、ショップのプロジェクトで結び直し、新しい縁につながることを願っています。

来年は喫茶を始めたい（夢）。MO

We’re beyond delightful to introduce Tenjinyama’s week-end art shop “BA TO KI KAI”, opening on June 18^th, 2022. This rest shop artistique, built experimental, will be open only for the early summer.

Available at the counter will be the goods by our artists-in-residence, e. g. small works, post cards, little presses, accessories, with the local specialties and aesthetics. Profits from the sales will be part of Tenijnyama’s budget for inviting future artists.

 

BA TO KI KAI’s first weekend will be June 17^th to 18^th, 2022. At the counter we will have: trial pack of home-roasted coffee beans from the recently-opened local business, pastries by one of our friends from Tenjinyama’s past events, with artist Wong Mei Yin Hazel’s zines and mini items and Boat Zhang’s small works.

 

Open:  11 a.m. – 5 p.m., June 18th, 19th, 25th, 26th / July 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th

The shop is being set up on the ground floor of the facility, which is open to the public. Demarcating the shop is this handsome counter table, and what’s even better is that we can use clean water around it. We used to have a hotel stand here back when this building was organized as an international exchange house. After it’s reformed into Tenjinyama Art Studio in 2014, we’ve built in here not only a café for Tenjinyama Bunka Sai, a collaborative festival organized with the Hiragishi locals, but a darkroom for our former artist-in-residence. The component is so versatile.

Having found it hard to realize “Art & Breakfast Day in Tenjinyama” following the pandemic (The programme was a combo of chit chat and pot-luck breakfast party where all staff and artists would look forward every month), we’ve come to get ourselves together to create another monthly highlight, something like that peaceful Sunday morning, where everyone was willing to learn about each other. And for this purpose, it was the project of the shop BA TO KI KAI (“place and opportunity” in JP) that we wanted to begin with.

While Tenjinyama Bunka Sai was annual and took only 1 to 2 days each time, we were able to get reconnected with the past participants, who, naturally are our locals. This shows how deeply we could cherish our experience of actually getting one whole festival together. We hope our connection, cultivated through last 8 years, will successfully get reunited even fastener, probably as a preparation for capture a new one.
