展覧会ナワレス＆カムイ： 高地の魂/ NAWAL-KAMUY について
目的／趣旨 メキシコ、チアパス、グアテマラの高地に住むツォツィル族とツェルタル族のネイティブ・アメリカンの芸術性と伝統、そして北海道のアイヌ民族を称え、ミクストメディアのインスタレーションを通してナワレス＆カムイの精霊の文化的・精神的意義を紹介する。
対象者 美術愛好家、文化史家、先住民族コミュニティ、市民のみなさま。
Event Name: Nawales & Kamuy: Spirits of the Highlands
Purpose/Objective: To showcase the cultural and spiritual significance of the Nawales Kamuy spirits through a mixed-media installation, celebrating the artistry and traditions of the Tzotzil and Tzeltal Native Americans from the highlands of Chiapas, Mexico, and Guatemala and The Ainu from Hokkaido Japan.
Target Audience: Art enthusiasts, cultural historians, Indigenous communities, and the general public.

社会的な変動、デジタルの世界、そして急速な技術の進歩が特徴的なこの時代において、私たちは地球、祖先、そしてかつて人類を導いていた神秘的な精神世界との本来のつながりからますます遠ざかっています。私たちは、先住民族の知恵—環境、動物、そして生命を支える元素的な力との神聖な関係—を見失ってしまいました。
このインスタレーションは、メキシコとグアテマラの高地に住む先住民族であるツォツィル族とツェルタル族のアニミズム的な宇宙観の文化的記憶を呼び起こし、日本の先住民族であるアイヌの精神的世界観との驚くべき類似性を浮き彫りにすることを目的としています。私は、彼らの宗教、伝統、言語、そして精神的な視点—いわゆる「進歩」の名の下に脅かされつつあるもの—の文化的記憶を甦らせることに深くコミットしています。これらの山岳地帯に住むマヤとアイヌの人々は、地球との深い絆を共有し、すべての魂が動物の精霊に守られていると信じています。彼らは、元素、動物、木、そしてすべての生き物が互いに繋がっており、それぞれが物理的と神秘的な領域を結ぶ精神的な本質を持っていると捉えています。
このインスタレーションはまた、札幌のコミュニティへの架け橋として、彼らに北海道のアイヌと深く共鳴する文化を探求することを呼びかけます。それは、一見異なるように見える私たちが、実は想像以上に多くの共通点を持っていることを明らかにします。人類学者でありアーティストとして、私は人々の間に絆を育み、私たちが皆この惑星の一部であることを思い出させる責任を強く感じています。多様な移住と文化によって形作られた私たちの祖先の世界は、貴重であり、守る価値があります。この作品を通じて、私は彼らの遺産を称え、私たちがしばしば無視してきた精神的および自然の世界とのつながりを再び呼び起こすことを願っています。
In an era marked by social upheaval, digital realms, and rapid technological progress, we are becoming increasingly detached from our innate connection to the Earth, our ancestors, and the mystical spiritual world that once guided humanity. We have lost touch with the wisdom of the First Nations—their sacred relationship with the environment, the animals, and the elemental forces that sustain life.
This installation aims to reawaken the cultural memory of the animistic cosmologies of the Tzotzil and Tzeltal peoples, indigenous communities from the highlands of Mexico and Guatemala, and to highlight their striking parallels with the spiritual worldview of the Ainu, the First Nations of Japan. I am deeply committed to reviving the cultural memory of their religions, traditions, languages, and spiritual perspectives—all of which are increasingly threatened by the relentless advance of so-called “progress.” These mountain-dwelling Maya and Ainu peoples share a profound bond with the Earth, believing that every soul is protected by an animal spirit. They perceive the elements, animals, trees, and all living beings as interconnected, each imbued with a spiritual essence that bridges the physical and mystical realms.
This installation also serves as a bridge to the Sapporo community, inviting them to explore a culture whose way of life and expression resonate deeply with the Ainu of Hokkaido. It reveals that, despite our apparent differences, we share far more in common than we might realize. As an anthropologist and artist, I feel a profound responsibility to foster connections between people and to remind us that we are all part of this planet. The worlds of our ancestors, shaped by diverse migrations and cultures, are precious and deserve to be preserved. Through this work, I hope to honor their legacy and inspire a renewed connection to the spiritual and natural worlds we have too often neglected.
