子どもプログラム「千鳥石火山灰ガラスクラブ」1日目レポート / Day 1 report for Kids Programme “Chidori-ishi Volcanic Ash Glass Club”

For this year’s Kids Programme “Chidori-ishi Volcanic Ash Glass Club”, we invited artist Takafumi Fukasawa to collect volcanic ashes of Sumikawa area and produced glass with handmade kiln. We had 15 elementary students from Sapporo City, with lecturers including a pottery artist, a glass artist, and a researcher of local history, besides the artist.

Chidori ishi was a ring name of this legendary sumo wrestler turned businessperson in the Meiji period, whose glass production for a local beer company resulted in a great success.

With 3 days of workshop in February, we got to vitrify the volcanic ashes. And this is the exhibition to showcase pieces of glass from the three days, together with the process of the project and other documentations including writing and illustrations by the artist.
