■ 展覧会「旅することのない絵葉書 / A postcard without traveling」について

私の作品は、場所と空間から大きなインスピレーションを得ています。私にとって、新しい場所や空間は、新しい物語を創造するための素晴らしいキャンバスとなります。私は「存在」と「無」という概念を探求することに興味があり、「存在」と「無」の関係を観察しています。この2つの概念は、私たちが住む空間の中でさまざまな現象となって現れます。私はこれを観察し、哲学的な思索を引き起こすような作品に発展させています。

さっぽろ天神山アートスタジオでの滞在中に行おうとしたプロジェクトのために、私はインスピレーションを求めて様々な場所を旅しました。最初に訪れた古本屋で、現代の端末（＊スマホやパソコン等の）の黒い表面（モニター）に映し出されている『映像として消費される文字』とは対照的な力を放つ文字に出会った。（古本の）色あせた紙に触れると、時間の痕跡を感じました。

もうひとつの感動的な場所は、札幌の公園でした。公園は私にとって札幌の最大の魅力であり、市民に寛大で静かな憩いの場を提供している。その中でもモエレ沼公園は特に強い印象を残しました。

埋立地だった場所が公園として生まれ変わり、ようやく元の姿に戻ったと感じたのです。時間の流れの中で、人間の欲望によって生命のイメージは変化・進化し続けますが、最終的には本質に戻るという大切なことを、この場所を通して改めて実感しました。創られては消え、存在しては消え、その中で最も本質的なものは何なのかを常に考えながら、それらすべてを認めていく。

今回の展覧会では、ドローイング・インスタレーション作品を通して、このコンセプトを伝えたいと考えています。会期中だけ存在し、会期終了後は完全に解体されるドローイング・インスタレーションは、その内容だけでなく、物質性によっても存在と不在を表現する手段となります。

また、さっぽろ天神山アートスタジオでの滞在制作で、初めて挑戦するポストカードドローイングやオブジェ作品も展示します。

このプロジェクトを始めたきっかけは、北海道大学の近くで偶然見つけた一組の絵葉書でした。1980年代に印刷された53枚の絵葉書は、40年以上も送られることなく箱の中にきちんと保管されていたのです。絵葉書は誰かの手に渡る運命をそもそも持っていますが、私が出会ったこれらの絵葉書は、自分の空間に閉じこもったままでした。旅をしていない絵葉書には内容も物語もありません。誰かに見せるためだけの、意味のない凍りついたままのイメージなのです。

さっぽろ天神山アートスタジオでの滞在時間は短かいものでしたが、毎日ここを訪れる地元の人々の反応を観察しました。人々は満開の桜を楽しんでいました。室内で展覧会を楽しむ人もいれば、時にはピアノを弾いたり、本を読んだり、窓際に座って静かに自然を愛でる人もいました。アートには、誰かに静かに語りかけ、反応を引き出し、思考を促す力があります。今回の滞在制作活動を通して、私も自分の作品を発展させ、その過程で生まれた新しい物語を、この場所を訪れた人たちと共有する貴重な機会を得ることとなりました。

My work is greatly inspired by place and space. New places and spaces serve as great canvases for creating new stories. I am interested in exploring the concepts of being and nothingness, and I observe their relationship. These two concepts manifest in various phenomena within the space we inhabit. I observe this and develop it into works that provoke philosophical contemplation.

For this project at Sapporo Tenjinyama Art Studio, I embarked on travels to various locations to seek inspiration. During my first visit to a used bookstore, I encountered letters that emanated a power contrasting with the letters consumed as images on the device’s black mirror in now. As I touched the faded paper, I could feel the traces of time. Another inspiring location was Sapporo’s parks. The parks are the biggest draw in Sapporo for me, as they offer generous and tranquil rest areas for citizens. Among them, Moerenuma Park left a particularly strong impression on me.

What was once a landfill has been transformed into a park, and I felt that it had finally returned to its original. Through this place, I once again realized the important fact that although the images of life continue to change and evolve due to human desires in the flow of time, it ultimately return to its essence. I acknowledge all these things that are created and disappear, exist and vanish, while always contemplating what is most essential among them. In this exhibition, I aim to convey this concept through my drawing installation work. The drawing installation, which exists only during the exhibition period and is completely dismantled afterward, serves as a means of expressing presence and absence not only through its content but also through its materiality. Additionally, postcard drawings, which I am trying for the very first time here at Sapporo Tenjinyama Art Studio, and object works will also be shown.

The inspiration for starting this work came from a set of postcards I accidentally stumbled upon near Hokkaido University. These 53 postcards, printed in the 1980s, had been neatly stored in a box for over 40 years without ever being sent. Although postcards are objects destined to be passed on to someone, these particular postcards I encountered remained confined to their own space. Postcards that have not traveled lack content and stories; they merely possess a shape and printed image. They are meaningless frozen images, only meant to be shown to someone.

In this era of technology, we reap its benefits but also find ourselves entangled within it, just being dragged along. Many people tend to overlook the direction of their lives, failing to contemplate their paths. The postcards I discovered in the used bookstore serve as a reminder of whether we are simply passing through life without truly experiencing its richness. This exhibition conveys reflection on the essence of the lives we lead.

Although my time at the Sapporo Tenjinyama Art Studio was brief, I stayed and observed the reactions of locals who visited this place every day. They delighted in the cherry blossoms, which were in full bloom at the moment. Some came indoors to enjoy the exhibition, occasionally playing the piano, reading books, or sitting by the window to quietly appreciate nature. Art has the power to quietly speak to someone, eliciting a response and prompting them to think. Through the program here, I also develop my work and had the valuable opportunity to share the new story created through this process with visitors to this place.
